The wine

The story of Grange is shaped by Max Schubert's dream to create a long-lasting red wine, inspired by his journey to Bordeaux. Despite initial rejection and secret production, Schubert remained true to his vision. Grange, named after the first home of the Penfolds founders, was triumphantly reintroduced in 1960. The timeless charm of Grange lies in its unchanged style, marked by aromatic complexity, rich fruit, and ripe tannins. The 20-month aging in American oak barrels and additional bottle aging give the wine remarkable development with rounded tannins and increasing complexity. Today, Grange is regarded as an icon of Australia and embodies the persistence of an exceptional wine style.

The 2013 vintage in South Australia was characterized by a dry winter similar to conditions in 2006, with vines becoming accustomed to the dryness early on, except in McLaren Vale where refreshing winter rainfall occurred. The growing season was consistently warm and dry, leading to an early start of the harvest and concentrated wines with robust tannins and intense aromas.
